Chennai Super Kings shocked everyone by appointing a new captain prior to the 2024 Indian Premier League. The major announcement is that Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named the new captain of Chennai, after the abrupt departure of MS Dhoni. After leading Chennai to their 6th IPL victory last season, Dhoni has now given Gaikwad full control of the squad.
Dhoni Record As a Captain
Dhoni not only led Chennai to five IPL victories, but he also led the team to five final appearances. The only captain to have participated in ten IPL finals is him. Chennai has won championships in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023 when Dhoni was captain. He led the squad to the championship in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019.

The New Captain of CSK is Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named the Chennai Super Kings’ new captain. Gaikwad replaced Dhoni in the captains’ picture session that took place before to the IPL starting. Only three seasons have Rituraj Gaikwad been a player for Chennai. He made his debut in 2020 and only managed to participate in six games throughout the inaugural campaign.
However, he was given his full opportunity in 2021, when he scored 635 runs, including one century and four half-centuries. Gaikwad only scored 368 runs in 2022, however he made the team champion in the previous season by scoring 590 runs in 16 games.
