Analyses of data collected from travelers to the Maldives in March 2023 and March 2024 have shown this fact.

It’s interesting to note that although India ranked second in terms of visitors visiting the Maldives in March of last year, its current ranking is sixth. This March, the Maldives welcomed almost 27,000 visitors from India.

In March 2023, over 41,000 Indian visitors traveled to the Maldives, down from 27,224 in the same month the previous year, indicating a roughly 33 percent decrease.

A decrease in the Quantity of Travelers to the Maldives

Traveler interest in the Lakshadweep islands has increased recently, which is the primary cause of this reduction. Around 54,000 tourists from China visited the Maldives in March of this year, indicating a rise in the number of visitors to the destination.

Maldivians chose earlier this week not to extend their hydrographic surveying arrangement with India. Along with this announcement, President Muhammad Muizzu said that the nation would think about buying the equipment and facilities required for the actual activity.

Additionally, the President said that in order to maintain control over its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), his nation will install a round-the-clock monitoring system for the seas around the Maldives.

Following the signing of a defense agreement for free military support to foster “stronger” bilateral ties between China and the Maldives, the incident took place. All that matters is that the Maldives’ ties with India have deteriorated dramatically since Muizzu took office as president last year. Asking India to remove all of its soldiers was one of his first actions.
